TOKONAME presents works by contemporary masters and emerging makers from one of Japan's most celebrated pottery towns — over 100 teapots by five artists, gathered for the first time in Europe.

Makers

Seiji Ito

Seiji Ito, who works under the name Jinshu (甚秋), is a master of Tokoname teaware with more than fifty years at the wheel — renowned for his extra-flat kyusu and deep connection to the culture of tea.

Teruyuki Isobe

Teruyuki Isobe (磯部輝之, b. 1938) is among the most revered living kyusu makers of Tokoname, renowned for hand-stamped inka floral decoration and flat “hiragata” teapots of exceptional thinness.

Yokei Mizuno

Yokei Mizuno (水野陽景, b. 1956) is a Tokoname kyusu maker celebrated for teapots of remarkable thinness and for his command of demanding unglazed firings such as nanban.

Kanjo Omata

Kanjo Omata (小俣冠丞, b. 1998) is the youngest maker in UNEARTHED's Tokoname show — Taiwan-born, institute-trained, and a pupil of Yokei Mizuno — shaping kyusu and gongfu-style pouring vessels with a restless feel for clay and surface.

Yutaro Yamada

Yutaro Yamada (山田勇太朗, b. 1992) belongs to the youngest generation of Tokoname teapot makers — the first kyusu specialist in his potting family, working in self-dug clay, shudei, mogake and yohen.
