Perrine Pottiez

Perrine Pottiez creates poetic, elemental ceramics from wild clays collected by hand. Working from her home in Toulouse, she pinches, throws, brushes, and fires each piece with quiet precision—allowing the process, the earth, and the flame to leave their mark.

About Perrine Pottiez (Toulouse, France)

Perrine’s work feels like something unearthed from the forest floor—quiet, raw, yet full of life. She began making ceramics in 2016, drawn instinctively to the bowl form. Without formal training, she developed her process through experimentation and deep listening to her materials.

All her clays are collected by hand from nature, slowly processed into workable paste and brushed slips known as sigillée—fine, decanted clays that give color and impermeability. From these humble ingredients, she forms her vessels, often by pinching or throwing with intentional slowness, leaving the soft trace of the tool and hand.

The result is deeply tactile: no two objects are the same, and all bear the subtle scars and sheen of wood ash firing at 1150°C. These pieces aren’t made to be perfect—they’re made to be felt.

“A dream of forest, rain.

The tall pines, the lake and the bird

the crackling fire

silence, peace”

Perrine’s technique combines natural clay harvesting, pinching and throwing, and the ancient technique of sigillata brushing—thin, fine clay slips applied layer by layer. Her work is fired in either wood-fired or gas-fired kilns, with the ash lending both texture and subtle shifts in tone.

This slow, honest approach gives her ceramics a unique presence: quiet, contemplative, and earthy.
