Tall Soda-fired Cup #203
Cup, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A tall, narrow cup whose wall was cut into twisted facets, so that the cross-section is roughly hexagonal. The speckled grey-blue glaze shows fine contour lines where it runs over the cut edges, and the cup stands on a small foot.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
