Mug, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)

A mug with a slightly flared rim, one thrown ring around the middle and a flat, angular handle. The pale grey glaze turns ochre and light green where the soda reached it, and the unglazed foot ring shows the orange colour of the soda firing.

In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
