Soda-fired "Goblet" Cup #202
Cup, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A cone-shaped cup on a stem foot with two thrown rings, similar to a small goblet. Ochre-orange flashing covers most of the outside next to a grey-blue patch, and the throwing marks stay visible under the glaze.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
