Soda-fired Bowl #211
Bowl, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A bowl in two tiers, with a rounded lower part and a slightly narrower upper part. The glossy blue-grey glaze collected into a green-blue edge towards the foot, and the inside is grey with visible throwing rings. It can be used as a wide teacup or as a small bowl.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
