Small Soda-fired Bowl #208
Bowl, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A low small bowl with a groove that sets off a rounded lower part. The grey-blue glaze on the upper half meets a band of orange flashing along the groove, and the unglazed base shows the orange colour of the soda firing. It can be used as a wide teacup or as a small bowl.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
