Small Faceted Soda-fired Bowl #205
Bowl, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A small bowl with a wide, flaring rim, whose outer wall was cut with a knife into irregular vertical facets after throwing. The outside is glazed in a pale grey-white, and the inside carries a light celadon-blue glaze. It can be used as a wide teacup or as a small bowl.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
