Yunomi, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)

A large yunomi, the Japanese everyday teacup without a handle, with a rounded body and a thrown ring. A diagonal band of orange flashing crosses the grey-blue glaze.

In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
