Faceted Soda-fired Yunomi #214
Yunomi, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A yunomi, the Japanese everyday teacup without a handle, with a flaring rim and a wall cut with a knife into vertical facets. The glaze is a pale grey-white with a fine crackle, and the inside is white.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
