Faceted Soda-fired Yunomi #213
Yunomi, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A yunomi, the Japanese everyday teacup without a handle, with a flaring rim and a wall cut with a knife into vertical facets. The pale grey-white glaze shows a fine crackle, and one side has a light orange flashing.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
