Small Soda-fired Bowl #210
Bowl, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A small bowl in two tiers, with a rounded lower part and a slightly narrower upper part. One side carries strong orange flashing with fine combing marks, while the other side stays pale blue-grey. It can be used as a wide teacup or as a small bowl.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
