Soda-fired Pitcher #202
Pitcher, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A straight serving pitcher (gongdaobei) with a pulled spout. The tea is poured from the teapot into the pitcher and from there into the cups, so that every cup gets the same strength. The dark grey rim fades into orange flashing and then into a pale cream towards the foot, and the inside is glazed white.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
