Pitcher, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)

A straight serving pitcher (gongdaobei) with a pulled spout. The tea is poured from the teapot into the pitcher and from there into the cups, so that every cup gets the same strength. Bands of beige and brown-grey flashing run around the body, and the inside is glazed white.

In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.

Yufeng Wang

Wang Yufeng founded Nánjiāo Studio in 2011 to explore ceramics that reflect nature’s healing power. With over a decade of dedication to soda firing, his works radiate rustic elegance—fine porcelain forms painted by fire and earth. Each piece is a quiet conversation between artist, kiln, and nature.

This does not only concern porcelain makers but also artists working with other materials like stoneware, glas, metal, wood and textiles.
