Small Soda-fired Bowl #209
Bowl, Porcelain, soda-fired (partial glaze)
A low small bowl with a groove that sets off a rounded lower part. The outside is glazed in a grey-blue with light orange flashing at the groove, and the throwing rings are visible in the grey glaze on the inside. It can be used as a wide teacup or as a small bowl.
In the soda firing, soda is added to the kiln at high temperature. The vapour settles on the piece, which gives the orange flashing on the unglazed parts and the uneven gloss on the glaze.
