Carved and Thrown

A two-person exhibition pairing ceramicist Hanka Vrbicová with wood carver Vlastimil Hanuš — crafted by two close friends from Czechia. Hanka Vrbicová fires her ceramics at up to 1380°C in a wood-firing kiln, producing toasty surfaces and shiny glazes. Vlasta Hanuš carves wooden tea utensils that combine minimalist shapes with the natural aesthetics of wood grain. The tea trays are made in collaboration with Jan Šmejkal. As a unique expression of their shared passion for material and detail, Vlasta complements many of Hanka's teapots with hand-carved wooden handles — the two crafts becoming one at the tea table.
