Excellently made Matcha from several unique cultivars including some hand-picked qualities for an attractive price. Also the machine-harvested Okumidori Matcha offers an affordable every-day quality.
Tea cultivation in Nishio dates back to 1271, initiated by the Zen monk Shoichi Kokushi. The region's focus on Tencha began in the early 20th century, distinguishing it as Japan's only city specializing in tea grown specifically for matcha .
Nishio's matcha is celebrated for its vibrant green color, elegant aroma, and smooth umami flavor. This quality is achieved through traditional cultivation methods, including shading tea plants with "Tana" frameworks to enhance sweetness and reduce bitterness.
“We hand-pick young leaves, use elevated shading to enhance flavor, and rely on organic fertilizers without pesticides. Our goal is to produce high-quality matcha through careful, sustainable cultivation.” 5th generation Nishio tea farmer
In the pursuit of offering unique teas to our customers we found this tea farmer in the lesser known growing region of Nishio which produces excellently made Matcha in various qualities. All Matchas are single-cultivar teas, and we are proud we can offer several hand-picked qualities at an attractive price point. Also the machine-harvested Okumidori Matcha offers an affordable every-day quality.
All teas are grown without the use of pesticides and only with organic fertilisers. All of our Nishio Matcha is freshly stone-milled and then refrigerated at 2°C once in Germany.

1 reviewOur gallery, studio, and tea space are a hub for experiencing and sharing the art of ceramics and tea.
Similar to the concept of “Utsuwa-galleries” in Japan, we are holding monthly exhibitions of unique ceramicists from Japan, China and Europe.
We also regularly host Workshops and Tea Experiences.
Aromatisch, süßlich, vollmundig über drei Aufgüsse.
Sehr schmackhaft im empfohlenen Einmalaufguss.
This matcha has small lumps but is really gentle.
I can't wait to try meiju.
Uneven, subtle glaze. The dented spots are particulary cool, since they adjust the cup very much to the hand. The combination of the white glaze with unglazed red clay parts reminds me positevly of 1970s aestetics.
We love the weight, the feel, the size - and how beautifully the katakuchi lends itself to pouring cool liquids as well as brewing hot tea...
My favorite tea 💚 you can drink in cold brew, warm infusion or sparkling tea
