A self-taught ceramicist deeply shaped by East Asian aesthetics and tea culture, Marcel Karcher creates vessels that are contemplative, balanced, and quietly expressive.
His passion for tea led him across continents: a journey that started with selling tea online eventually led to a 9-month sabbatical through India and China, exploring tea at its source. It was during this journey that he deepened his appreciation not just for the leaf, but for the vessels, tools, and stories that surround it.
This experience became the foundation for @tea.log, an Instagram project now followed by over 23,000 tea lovers. It also sparked the creation of UNEARTHED, a gallery, studio, and gathering space dedicated to tea culture and ceramics.
Here, Marcel shares both his own works and those of artists he admires—creating a bridge between makers, rituals, and community.

Marcel works primarily with porcelain and stoneware, throwing and altering forms with precision and care. His aesthetic draws from Chinese and Japanese teaware lineages but retains a quiet minimalism that’s distinctly his own.
Finishes are often subtle: thin brush glazes, natural slips, soft distortions. Marcel’s ceramics are meant for use—for everyday tea rituals and quiet moments.
