This shifuku contrasts the luxurious gold of the fabric with the rich pink of the Shōraku chaire, united by the rich burgundy himo. A difficult shape to work with due to the flaring shoulders, it nonetheless has a lively elegance. The fabric is “Samarkand” by Marvic Textiles, a large pattern which when cut on the scale of a shifuku becomes abstract and textural.

In this exhibition, Kyle explores the idea of the silk road and how textiles move around the world, often changing meaning as they do. Here the name of the fabric reminds us of this.

All shifuku feature bespoke handmade himo and tsugari (gathering cord that attaches the himo) in pure silk by Kyle and are signed with the Studio Shifuku mark inside. All linings are silk.
