Raku-Yaki Chaire by Shōraku IV, with the Shōraku kiln stamp
with bespoke Shifuku by Studio Shifuku
Includes a custom-made signed wooden box
This shifuku in embroidered blue silk evokes the extravagance of baroque European palaces. Careful pattern placement and fitting were needed to create it. The himo is colour matched so that the embroidery appears to flow out of the fabric, becoming it’s own physical entity in the himo.
In this exhibition, Kyle explores the idea of the silk road and how textiles move around the world, often changing meaning as they do. Here the name of the fabric reminds us of this.
All shifuku feature bespoke handmade himo and tsugari (gathering cord that attaches the himo) in pure silk by Kyle and are signed with the Studio Shifuku mark inside. All linings are silk.
