Influenced by the aesthetic heritage of Chinese and Japanese painting and ceramics, and as a ceramics enthusiast and collector himself, Romuald Maurel researches the history of these techniques. He visited the most prestigious collections in China, Japan and Taiwan.

Over the past 10 years he has developed numerous glaze firing experiments using an electric kiln. Romuald selects natural materials for his glazes, such as rocks, ochres, ashes and shells. He uses techniques such as layer-by-layer deglazing, removal, scraping, diffusion and re-firing of enamels (some pieces can be fired 2 to 5 times).
