Claire Landais, born in Paris in 1958, is a ceramic artist celebrated for her distinctive style, which embodies simplicity and depth. Her creative journey began with formal training at the State Institute of Art in Florence, Italy, followed by studies at the School of Decorative Arts in Strasbourg, France. However, it was her nomadic spirit that truly shaped her artistic vision.
Working in various locations such as Paris, Montreuil, and the charming village of Goujounac in southwest France, Claire developed a profound appreciation for the raw beauty of her surroundings. This appreciation is evident in her ceramics, where she draws inspiration from the ancient kinship between humanity and clay.
Claire's artistic process is refreshingly straightforward. Using only her hands, she shapes each bowl with a human rhythm, without adding or removing anything. She allows the natural elements of wood, charcoal, and high temperatures to dictate the colors and textures of her pieces, resulting in vessels that seem to embody the very essence of nature itself.
Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions, including the prestigious Ceramic Festival 11 in Paris, where her ability to evoke emotion through her connection with the earth has garnered widespread acclaim. Through her ceramics, Claire invites viewers to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the timeless beauty of the natural world.
